P-UNTRICI

PROJECT

For about 20 years the artist has been thinking on the theme of climate change, meditating on the power of nature in itself and over us.

With P-Untrici and Tigre vs Tigre the artist investigates the insect: drawing its features with blood, reproducing its lightness with the braids of copper wire. At the same time it reveals its ambiguous nature. The mosquito is one of the most annoying entertainers of the summer evenings and is only seemingly harmless. The lightness of the tiger streaks, the delicacy of the flight, the bearable (even if annoying) sting hide pitfalls that go well beyond the domestic walls. The title of this section alludes to all that: the simple “puntrice” (“the biter”) becomes giant and “untrice” (“plague-spreader”), able to convey diseases and unleash pandemics of which man is cause, means and (perhaps) solution.
“Why do mosquitoes fascinate me so much? Surely they remind me something ancestral, expecially in the fight that one engages with them; it is amazing that such a tiny being is able to be so intrusive and so winning. I am quite shocked if I think that they can touch the deepest chords of the human soul becoming not only a vehicle but more often a metaphor, of those fears that arise from nothing but can become something overwhelming.”

At the end, mosquitoes have killed more people than all the wars in history combined“.
